Very cool that you went to a lecture with the book’s author.
We enjoyed the movie although I wish I hadn’t gone. I found out after that both Grande and Erivo signed the artists for ceasefire petition. (This petition made no mention of releasing hostages.) It’s a shame I have to investigate every actor’s social media. If they are Jew haters I cannot support them.
Sounds like such an interesting evening watching the film and then getting to hear the author! You’ve peaked my interest with this review. It wasn’t a film I was initially going to watch.
Thanks, Ingrid. Like you, I wasn't totally sold on this film. One of the only musical film adaptations that really moved me in the past ten years was "The Greatest Showman," which I adored, mostly though because of the music, and less so the narrative. Here, the music is almost secondary, even though it's pitch-perfect (tee hee), but really, it's so seamlessly brought in that it enhances and doesn't detract from the beautiful story. Ariana is luminous as is Cynthia. Their fully embodying these characters makes it soar.
I hadn't intended to see this film just yet, but I'm intrigued about it after reading your review. I would not have imagined there was as much complexity as you discuss. Having seen some publicity about it though, the two leads really seem to be engrossed in their roles.

First, thank you for the comment. The event was a joy, and it was so nice to celebrate good film and literature in the community!
It's disheartening to hear about the petition. 😥
I enjoyed the movie, too! Ariana was great and Cynthia... she is something else. Looking forward to seeing Part Two next year.
Fantastic read, Beth!!
Thx Sara!!

Thanks! Yes, to complexity. It's there. Go see it!
Excellent review! Also love Lynch/Oz and La Chimera!
Thanks Dan!! Appreciate the feedback and support. I kept on thinking about “Lynch/Oz” as I listened to Maguire talk about Wizard of Oz
