I’m glad that I now know a bit of the Osage story, but I’m not sure what qualifies for Oscar worthy anymore. Sure this one was popular and well financed, but what’s the rubric for the grand prize?

The movies that made me think about them long after the credits rolled were Anatomy of a Fall, Past Lives, Zone of Interest, and American Fiction. The Holdovers was a classic story arc that was beautifully executed.

I *loved* Cord Jefferson’s speech about financing more lower budget movies to give more writers and directors a shot.

I have seen only one film out of the ten nominees -- my worst percentage of my adult life. That one was Oppenheimer. And I did not like it at all. I truly don't get the accolades for it. I feel like it's a "we're supposed to like this because it's capital I 'important'" film. I really don't care about the Oscars, haven't in a long while. My tastes rarely line up with the top films. I didn't love Everything Everywhere All at Once" either. I liked it enough, but it all shows me that I prefer smaller, more character-driven films.

Emmys I am heading this way too. How Better Call Saul could have never won an Emmy is insane. Also, The Leftovers was brilliant and never nominated.

But no matter. Like Jimmy McGill's pseudonym once said: "It's Saul Goodman!"

Its blockbuster fatigue. I am with you that I get more out of a character driven film. I thought “killers of the flower moon” was a nice balance of this. I was invested in the Leo and Gladstone characters for entirely different purposes. Cord Jefferson who won for adapted screenplay for his film “American Fiction”’said something to the effect of “Hollywood let’s stop with just putting all our eggs in one basket and spread the capital” in his acceptance speech https://www.indiewire.com/news/breaking-news/cord-jefferson-oscars-more-mid-budget-movies-1234963015/

Also in listening to how the Oscar’s are so entirely political (in lobbying and campaigning) which is not a surprise I think it soured me a bit more.
