So see it. But also know you’ve been warned. PTSD is real and “Tide Pod” MacGyver type taming measures for fixing mother nature are not. Read on for more.
I'm new on Substack and fairly new to movie reviews, so forgive me if I seem a little out of place here.
Don't you think worrying over scientific and technological inconsistencies is a little bit nitpicky? If you know what I mean?
Also, I quite liked Twisters for it's simplicity. A Summer Blockbuster with a simple premise not weighed down by huge themes and ideas it couldn't handle.
And finally. On the topic of PTSD. I understand the dangers of writing about mental illnesses in literature these days. But the same criticism could be made of any significant character that has experienced trauma. That's sort of the point of the hero's journey isn't it?
Also. As I'm new to this, I mean know criticism of you at all. In fact, I'm just wondering for my own learning. Thanks, Braike.
I can appreciate that it's an enjoyable and entertaining film. My commentary on the science is it points mostly to the larger-than-life aspirations of the film overall. It's not a humble movie and the spirit of the first film was much more, "Apple origin story," (the vibe" a few unlikely, nerdy geniuses kicking up some magic in a garage - let's experiment and fail and figure it out) vs here, in this film where everyone is super slick and cool and brilliant and they actually DO save the midwest, or the film leaves you thinking that. And yes, i'm not sure I buy the overall science solution, but that aside...On point of the trauma, Javi and Tyler were so deaf to Kate's grief and pain by evidence of the fact that they kept on re-exposing her to the catalyst and Javi was pissed that she reacted the way she did. The lack of empathy was astounding.
Thank you so much for that insight! As I said I’m new to this whole thing.
I can see where you're coming from now re the science issue. Also thinking back to the film, I definitely see more clearly your point on the issue of PTSD.
I also appreciated your response so pls be engaged and keep the comments coming. It challenges me rethink things which makes me a better writer and analyst!
And I’m rewatching The Last Kingdom because of our discussion. 😂😂
I’m not into disaster movies unless it’s streaming for free and there’s nothing else to watch. Hubby will watch disaster movies over and over again. Is that a guy thing?
🙌🏽🙌🏽 for The Last Kingdom!! I will skip Twisters even more now. My sons went to see it in 4DX just for the fun of it, and said if there ever was a movie to watch in 4DX that one was it. But they rated the film 2.5/5.
We are rewatching The Last Kingdom because of our convo! Haha. It’s great the second time around. Some story lines and characters I didn’t remember. The actor who plays Olaf in Vikings Valhalla also plays the slave boat captain.
Have you watched the film? I think it’s called Seven Kings or something like that, I can’t remember right now. I was so excited for it to come out, but ultimately disappointed when I watched it. It didn’t even come close to the show.
"Why is Tyler a tornado wrangler? Because he confronts his fears head-on! He will never let fear get the better of him." - that's one hell of a back story for him 🤣. In all seriousness it doesn't sound like the movie is for me. I'll stick with the original Twister!
I am curious about Obituary though. I just finished Bodkin and Siobhán Cullen really grew on me.
If it comes to one of the streaming services I subscribe to I might watch it on a night where I don't want to think too hard 😊. It feels like this kind of movies when you just want a bit of action and some cool actors.
Based on everything you've said, I'm prepared to let the wind die down on the hype of this one, then give it a whirl when it's available on DVD. 🌪️🎬📀☺️

Saw Twisters with my daughters. Super fun and entertaining. Intense! Whether any of the science is real doesn’t matter.
And I’m rewatching The Last Kingdom because of our discussion. 😂😂

I watched a Korean horror zombie movie. Sometimes it’s oddly settling. Like things could be worse 🤷
I think that’s why disaster movies are blockbusters. We don’t have alien invasions destroying the planet.

Yes! Will watch again after the series. I don't remember the movie very well tho. Hmmm.
I jumped into the show yesterday after missing many episodes and got all up to speed. I think I annoyed the crap out of my husband
Haha!!
I think your sons’ ratings are spot on but 💯 it’s a film to be seen on the “big screen”

It’s a bit over the top no doubt. Dialogue is lacking too but it’s also entertaining. Worth a whirl if you can withstand the motion sickness.

Yup that sounds about right.
That was last Saturday evening for me and I thoroughly enjoyed “Space Cadet” while eating Thai takeout.
Honestly sounds like a nice Saturday evening! And now I want Thai food
You and me both. Right now I’m settling into laundry folding with “train to busan” which has me thinking I’m a glutton for horror punishment
Based on everything you've said, I'm prepared to let the wind die down on the hype of this one, then give it a whirl when it's available on DVD. 🌪️🎬📀☺️
That’s a legitimate choice. The theatrical experience holds value because of the special effects
