James - Thx for sharing! I need to watch this. I feel like it's calling out for me every time I see the previews air on Apple TV+! Thanks for confirming this.
It’s great that Melissa O’Neil got a higher profile TV role on The Rookie, but I would trade all of that show for a 4th season of the Canadian sci-fi series Dark Matter she starred in a few years back. Also, people, please stop recycling series names — now there’s something else out called Dark Matter. Was there a title shortage or something?
In the so-bad-it’s-good category of family viewing, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention La Brea, sort of a Lost: Los Angeles, and Coroner, which maybe is just stuck in a Canadian infinite loop. Sometimes you just need something to laugh at.
Frank - I agree with you on the show names. So many recycled names, and it gets so confusing. "La Brea" I watched because I like Natalie Zea, the main actress, who was also in "Justified" (the original series) as Raylan's ex and then wife, and then ex-wfe. She's great, but the show was a little silly. Even so, we watched it for a while!
La Brea has quite a bit to look for. For example, just when you thought you’d seen every possible family-in-jeopardy cliche, they come up with another one. They must have a master list they’re slowly working through.
And I think you could line up most of the characters with characters from Lost. You want The Others? We got ’em. Etc.
I thought it had been cancelled, but just now I see there’s a 3rd season. Okay, back down the hole.
And I’m disappointed nobody on the show has yet to make a joke about how when you say The La Brea Tar Pits, you’re really saying The The Tar Tar Pits. Maybe something about steak tartare? How raw sabertooth is just the pits?
😂 this is my day’s highlight right here. First off, yes they have a cliche list fueled by the intelligence of a rating’s system which is based on how much a tragic tearjerker it will be tied to character investment and consumer sentiment. And damn it. They haven’t made a joke yet on the 🥩 front??? What gives.
We started “Shogun” / in transparency our Hulu membership includes ads which makes watching any show on that streamer an extra effort. This plays a role in our ability to persist with certain shows. I think Shogun was in this category
I don’t mind the ads so much, except for the ads that ask me to CLICK to choose which ad to watch! I’m trying to zone out here until the show comes back, Hulu!
Thanks for the comment Kym. Aren’t we all lusting after an Airstream? A few years ago we did an Airbnb experience of staying in a camper (not an Airstream mind you) but the Airstream was the inspiration for me!
I just looked up “Best of Enemies” - is it the film from 2019 about a civil rights activist with Taraji P Henson?
Great read! My wife and I are LOVING Trying on Apple TV+ right now. The funniest, most life-affirming show.

It’s truly wonderful, and criminally overlooked. Let me know what you think!
"Criminally overlooked" James is kinda my bag, so now I have to.
Will look it up. Thx for recommend!
Enjoy!

Haha. Not many people know about that redundancy. I grew up in LA, having gone on a few school field trips to the Tar Pits.
Ooo. Hubby is a big Dark Matter fan. Will mention Melissa.
La Brea sounds intriguing.
I've got a list of new things to watch now. Thanks much!
My wife and I are SLOWLY working our way through SHOGUN and loving it. Something about an immersive historical drama brings us together, I guess.
We’ve been slowly watching. The history is amazing. I couldn’t get over the dainty dishware. Hehe.

Love Tracker! Mostly lusting after that Airstream but I like that Colter has a “complicated” background too. And Ellsberg is fun detective junk food.
Apologies if you’ve already written on “Best of Enemies” but I’d like to get your thoughts …

I believe so yes. Starring Sam Rockwell - one of my favorite actors!
Mine too.
Lusting after Airstream and Justin Hartley. Hehe.
