Thanks! The Bear is an incredible show. I can’t wait for the next season though not sure how much it can sustain itself and still hold onto the special sauce. I hope for a long time. Lessons in Chemistry is a heartwarming show. January is a month of mysteries. Been watching a whole bunch.
I can’t watch Jury Duty (Bryan and Thomas are watching it). As a very gullible person (VGP), the idea of one person not being clued in makes me queasy. 🤢
Very nice! And thanks for the shout-out! It's funny, I was so skeptical about Bodies, and ended up loving it! It was smartly assembled and super ambitious. And you were the one to recommend it and it's not on your list!:) Another show I think you recommended is Am I Being Unreasonable? I am almost done with it now (only the finale left - and I know it's controversial), and I think it's great. I love dark humor and that show has it in spades. I want to maybe write something about the "explosion" of diarrhea scenes in 2023, especially for women (both AIBU and Somebody Somewhere....do you know of a third?). I might be the last of us to not yet have watched The Last of Us. One day I hope to have time for that...Oh that crazy thing called life getting in the way...I've been reading your posts, just haven't watched any of the shows and movies so had nothing to offer!
Have an amazing and safe NYE/NY and let's collaborate again in 2024! - Steve
Thanks for the note Steve. It's been a year of pretty good TV. I loved "Am I Being Unreasonable" and thought about "Hijack" too! Just too many. I finally watched "American Symphony" this evening about Jon Battiste's 2022 and I might have to go back and add a "Runner Up" in my "Best Films" post. That was a phenomenal and so moving.
Have an amazing and safe NYE/NY yourself. Excited for 2024 and creating more space for collabs. When I reflected on the shows I enjoyed most, it most definitely was impacted by the quality discussions and thought partnerships. "Dead to Me" didn't make it but it was a solid choice as well.
Didn't see "American Symphony" yet, but it's on my list. I did watch Sam Esmail's Leave the World Behind and really liked it, despite many holes and the kitchen sinkness of it all.
I'm pretty sure Dead To Me was 2022 (most of it aired then - it was November - January 2023) but maybe it counts? I loved Reservation Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows, Beef, Mrs. Davis, and The Other Two a whole lot. I dunno, I liked The Bear but something about it keeps me at a distance. I did think season 2 was better, but still, I feel like I was supposed to emotionally connect more than I did.
I really disliked “Leave the World Behind” but the last 30 seconds sort of saved the film for me. “Beef” was another one I nearly put on the list but the enjoyment wasn’t as much there even though I can objectively say it was really well done. I didn’t do “The Other Two” - Did you ever watch “Shrinking”?
This is an amazing round-up Beth. I absolutely loved the Bear, and was crossing my fingers to see it here before I clicked on to read!
I never realised lessons in chemistry was turned into a show! Most definitely going to be next on my watch list!
Thanks for sharing :)

Didn’t realise there was a third season on the cards! That makes me very excited but also yes, lots to live up to
Thanks for the recs, Beth! I need more distraction in 2024. Maybe I'll start with jury duty since I too am a VGP.
It’s a good time. Happy 2024 Michele!

I’m a certified VGP as well. I couldn’t stop cracking up.
I agree with your top three! I would have added Shrinking to a top five list.
