I laughed out loud at the L.L. Bean jacket and Starbucks lines because saaaaame. 😂

Re Ellie shooting the kid, I found it sweet that Joel still thought there was an innocence to protect. Since she’s the same age as his daughter was, he defaults to that same level of shielding, when in reality, Ellie was basically being groomed by Fedra to be a soldier (I’m guessing). Her revelation of already having shot someone snaps him back to the reality of the situation, and he lets her keep the gun.

Thanks for sharing Jen. Agreed on the age of Ellie being a thing that triggers in Joel his own loss of his daughter and also that he’s trying to ensure he protects Ellie as a way to do penance (in his mind) for all those he couldn’t protect (his daughter, Tess). I also think he Carries the burden of a lot of guilt for the violence or deeds he did to survive in the interim years since the infection started. (Hinted to in the scene with him knowing it was an ambush in KC when Ellie asks how he knows and he responds that “been there, done that” type comment)
