I adore Tim Key (big Alan Partridge fan, love Taskmasters, British podcasts, etc) -- so THANK YOU for this heads up Beth! I can't wait to see this! I see it's not on streaming yet but soon, I hope.
Thanks for this one!! Beautiful music in the clip too! Might be just what I need to see now as I’m immersed in music research for the novel I’m working on at the moment.
I will have to put this on the TBW pile for sure! I loved Inside Llewyn Davis and Once and it just sounds like a really touching, thoughtful, understated film. Definitely here for those!
Looking forward to seeing this one at some point, I love a good film with music performed by the cast (cannot count how many times I have listened to Inside Llewyn Davis soundtrack). Great review, as always, enjoyed the breakdown of characters emotions and motivation.
Thx, Henny! This one was such a beautiful theatergoing experience as people were genuinely laughing and enjoying themselves. I don’t see that with a lot of the films I screen. Also, to your point, theater lately is comprised of “Minecraft” the movie (which Helen commented on in the comments) It takes work to go to find theaters (non mainstream) that play stuff like this! Let me know what you think if you end up seeing it.
Carey Mulligan has such an ease to her performances, even when she's playing a character such as in "A Promising Young Woman". Another film, related only by the premise of washed-up/retired musicians being sought after by Superfans, I recommended "Juliet, Naked", a sweet but quirky (thanks to Chris O'Dowd) romantic comedy.
Great review. A must see movie. The story line is original and quirky and I love Mulligan.
Thanks! Yes to quirky and Mulligan is chef’s kiss 😘
Former band reunites is one of my favorite tropes. And Carey Mulligan to boot? Thanks for putting this on my radar!
Ooh. Excited for you to see this one!

I didn’t know this about Tim Key but he looks familiar!
Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad I was able to bring some recommendation ❤️ and goodness to your day. It’s not yet streaming but in small theaters
You really did! I kept this newsletter in my inbox just cause every time I saw it I got a little positive hormone hit 🎥
I get that. I have that too. I never articulated it before but I’ve done that with posts. It can be because of the sender or the content or both
I'm looking fw to this, and your review only made me more hyped for it 🎉
Thx Alexandra. Look forward to hearing your thoughts too. You’re in for a treat

Yay! I’m so excited for this novel and can’t wait to hear more. Here’s to fun research inspo!

It is! “Once” is another prime example.

Thanks for sharing. I’m with you on the ILD soundtrack. I still listen to “Fare thee well”!
Just this morning I was saying I needed to go see a movie. Nothing has peaked my interest lately. Thanks for the rec!

Will do!
Saw this at the Glasgow Film Festival in March, and I absolutely adored it. So glad you liked it.
It’s such an uplifting movie. I’m a sucker for folk music love stories apparently
I will definitely catch this when it comes to the UK.
Definitely see it, Helen. I’m surprised it’s not there yet! Its origins being in the UK and all.
The Minecraft movie is taking up all the screens. 😂 might be able to find it at my local arthouse cinema though.
Of course it is 😂 😤
