I grew up in the 80s and I must say, TV shows during that era were pretty on point. Like you, I used to watch A LOT of TV (to the point where I recorded/DVR'd and watched later). These days, since I only have streaming services--not network--I've been watching less and reading more. But to answer your questions:
Have you watched any of these shows? I haven't, but I've heard of them.
What network TV shows do you watch? See my mention of lack of TV watching above. But when it's my Caregiver Week at my parents' house and my Dad isn't watching football, sometimes I try to catch "Elsbeth" and "Brilliant Minds". Elsbeth reminds me of a female version of "Monk" (which I used to watch) and Zachary Quinto as a doctor who likes to experience what his patients are feeling is a new hospital show concept that intrigued me. There are So. Many. Hospital shows it's fucking ridic and all the characters are cookie cutter (except for "The Good Doctor"). As an actor, I never would've pictured him portraying a doctor (he was a fabulous Dr. Spock and I liked him in "Heroes"), but this show is unique, so I hope it lasts for him.
Where HAVE all the cowboys gone? Did Paula ever find hers? She kinda disappeared, didn't she? I think all the cowboys ended up in romance books, I read. And even then, I get tired of reading about them. LOL
I like shows with quirky characters too so while I haven’t started “Elsbeth” I could see myself liking it. I really enjoyed “Monk” and I always relate to someone who metaphorically sticks her foot in her mouth so yeah, bring it on. It’s the end of the day so it’s possible my analogies aren’t landing. I apologize. I, too enjoy writing and do it often. Ive started listening to books as I read them too. I don’t have the attention span to sit and listen to a book but if I can actively read and then listen while I cook dinner that’s perfect! It also feeds my sense of staying the course and finishing books. Speaking of “The Good Doctor,” it’s a dated reference but do you recall SNL’s Kate McKinnon referencing the show in the pandemic skit the cast did a few years back? I couldn’t stop laughing. That show and Freddie Highmore was her screensaver. Nan was her character and she was every woman of a certain age
I know it’s not network TV but FX (on HULU) has my new favorite sitcom. English Teacher. It’s so great and clearly aimed at Gen-X with all the 80s music. Planning on writing about that one?
Great post and fantastic competition idea, though my mind is blank, apart from two songs that my husband has swapped out food references (not really what you're going for, I'd reckon). Missy Higgins' "Where I Stood" (I don't know, who eats ham..) and Bette Midler's "Beast of Burden" (I'll never be your beef burger). 😂
Ok stay tuned for a 🎁 You’ve earned it. Also I love that Missy Higgins’ song. 🎵 I listened to it all the time back in the day. Once again proving we are really the same person many time zones apart
LOVED the British "Ghosts" but haven't really viewed much of the American version. I may have gotten too connected to the characters in the original. The only network shows I watch are Abbott Elementary and Saturday Night Live. There are too many quality series and movies on streaming platforms to watch!
Thanks Dan! And I almost added SNL (which premieres this Saturday for the season) because it’s consistently a show I watch. That and sports and sometimes news.
Thanks Kate! Definitely check it out. I was just recommending to a family member via phone. It’s just spectacular and a cozy Sunday evening treat - a la “Murder She Wrote” I think that Manville’s fashion warrants a post topic altogether. I couldn’t pull off the fashion but it’s honestly one of the things I look forward to as I watch. Much more so than “Emily in Paris” even. Think I’m transitioning to hip bi-coastal grandma phase officially
High potential's trailer had already caught my attention and this makes me want to watch it even more. Ghosts also seems like it'd be right up my alley. I just wish it wasn't so difficult to stream some of those shows in the Netherlands...
I'm blank on the song challenge for now but I will get back here if anything comes to me 😂

Did you repost this post yet? BWAHA! Just did.
Here’s to the 80s, latchkey kids!

🥚🤦♂️
I do read everything but remember nothing. Cause I only have half a brain.
Do you like pina coladas?
🤣🤣🤣

Love Sweet Dee. I’m not being hyperbolic when I say The Mick is one of the best shows ever made

Thanks for the tips Beth, will add Moonflower Murders to my watch list, loved the first one. Proper 'sunday evening murder'. 👏 🍿

Have you seen 'Mrs Harris goes to Paris'?
Also, starring Manville and so much better than Emily in Paris. 👏
I haven’t! I need to.
I quite enjoy the constraints it has on storytelling.
