I didn't know about SMOKE, but I'm up for something that plays like Blackbird 2.0. I think that was the only thing I ever saw with Taron Edgarton in it and he did not disappoint. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a triple threat...
I’m embarrassed to say I’ve been watching nothing! I don’t know what’s happened to my TV watching abilities. If it isn’t on a big screen in the theatre, I can’t seem to pluck up the interest! I’m going to give Smoke a try. I loved Black Bird. I binged it when it came out!!
I haven’t read any Kevin Kwan stuff. Hard pass for me these days is billionaire boyfriends or hockey romance. And city 🐁 meets country 🐁. So basically anything on Hallmark channel. Assuming none of that?
We are of the same mind — LOVED Duster and need them to make a s2!! I wish The Buccaneers was getting more attention. I love those Victorian Zoomers. And it was wild watching the screeners for Smoke and And Just Like That at the same time with their cringe-y book voiceovers. (Someone needs to write that hot take.) Have you watched Murderbot? I wasn’t sure what to expect but it’s a really funny/clever and just sweet show with excellent casting, too.
Thanks Fawnia for all of this! I love the energy and fellow enthusiasm. I started Murderbot and fell asleep in the first episode. Granted it was a Friday and like 11:30 at night. My husband continued watching and keeps encouraging me to return. The Skarsgard factor might tip the scale in its favor. I also need to return to Stick. The Gen z stuff was bugging me but it’s a good Gen X-gen z relationship show.
lol TV is my favorite topic! I need to get back to Stick, too, mainly because of Maron. The part when Santi’s mom told Owen, “the Gen Zs, they can smell fear” made me lol. Go back to Murderbot! Alexander usually scares the absolute bejesus out of me but he’s just so ❤️ in this. And I love Noma/Mensah. I just saw her on stage too and want more of her!
I came to him later when he was on GLOW and then his podcast over lockdown so totally missed that one. I heard him talk about it on his AMA ep though. Is it available anywhere?
Wow, didn’t even realize that Grantchester was still going! I’m probably five or six seasons behind at this point. May have to go back to the beginning
Right? Or you could just pick up with a new vicar. The only downside is some of the gaps in plot developments. Ok never mind. Go back to the beginning! I’d say Sidney years may be unnecessary but starting with Will (2nd vicar) in season 4 you would want to be apart of
I love duster, I look forward to it every Thursday. But. Holloway’s hair is too much. It looks stringy at times and then too styled at times. It’s just too long and makes him look like an old guy trying to look young. Again I love duster and I loved sawyer in lost. I think they did him dirty with this do.
I think it does extenuate his jawline and his handsome face but maybe it is extensions like someone said because it just doesn’t look natural to me. Luckily he doesn’t take himself too seriously in this show and it’s just pure fun but this hair is so distracting lol. Reminds me of when Paul McCartney would color his hair and it was extremely obvious. Funny how that’s a normal thing for women but not so much for men.
Thanks for your fun reviews, I’m always looking for something new to watch.
We are watching Duster here. It is a bit of a slow burn but does keep getting better. As I've recently started watching the first, quite complex, season of Andor I actually welcomed the most recent episode of Duster. It's a bit easier to follow! The series feels a bit like a 70s Mod Squad reboot although I'm impressed with how diverse the cast is. Josh Holloway is much better than he ever was on Lost. His hair is cool (coming from someone who also has long hair!) although sometimes I wonder if he's got a lot of hair extensions in there! It's SO full for someone his age! Rachel Hilson gives it her best but it's for me not to think of her as the high school student in Love Victor. I don't think it's a Top Ten worthy show but it has its pleasures.
I'm not watching "Andor" yet; everyone seems to love it. I'm not in that Star Wars mega-universe at all, but I've heard you don't need to be.
Re: Duster - Every man I speak to has some serious thoughts about Josh Holloway's hair in this show. It just cracks me up. It clearly hits a nerve. I think he's good here, though I did love me some Sawyer way back in the day. It is a BIG departure from the Love, Victor role for Hilson. I think she gets it done just fine, but I really loved that show.
I think most guys are jealous of Holloway's hair! Andor is a bit outside my league too but I'm giving it a go since that second season seems beloved by a lot of people.
I love everything Grantchester. This new season is terrific. I have Duster queued on Max, I just need the time to sit down and watch. Now you have given me the impetus.
I do have a confession I can't watch the Gilded Age. Its funny because I loved Downton Abbey. But I simply detest New York Society in the Gilded Age. They all give me the willies. But I did find the story arc about the battle over The Metropolitan Opera rather interesting.
I do love "Grantchester" - It's a very wholesome, feel-good show. There are times when I wish certain scenes were sped up (like the music my kids like to listen to), but I'm trying to re-train myself to appreciate the long, slow pauses. Watch "Duster" and tell me what you think. It's been a sleeper hit fun show for me. I cracked up when I read your comment about The Gilded Age - OMG, talk about "upstairs, downstairs" rich people problems. I laugh at a lot of it, including the ridiculous snobbery. The temperance theme and soapbox Cynthia Nixon's character is adopting this season is mind-numbingly painful, but apart from that, I can deal.
Thank you for reading!
Thank you for writing such fantastic and thoughtful books. I was just at Lovestruck Monday for an event and recommended your books!
Thank you Beth!
First, yay to Holloway’s hair.
Second, I love the idea of fictional characters being your friend especially as an introverted person myself.
Just caught up on The Buccaneers this afternoon!
I’m right now listening to all American bitch. It’s a great tune 🎵
It’s so catchy!! It’s been caught in my head more than once.
I didn't know about SMOKE, but I'm up for something that plays like Blackbird 2.0. I think that was the only thing I ever saw with Taron Edgarton in it and he did not disappoint. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a triple threat...
It’s a decent show. I’m enjoying it. I don’t know that it’s quite Blackbird but it hits the spot
BTW love this watchlist!!

Understandable
You are busy! I love your book recos. Btw thought of you immediately -
Trying to source a book for a romance book club virtual meet up next week. Theme is Southeast Asia region
I had “How to end a love story”’in here before realizing it’s not Southeast Asia!!
Not sure if Sex and Vanity fits the theme either, but now that I’ve mentioned it, I pulled it off my shelf, maybe I’ll start reading it!
One that you might look into, is Kevin Kwan’s Sex and Vanity. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s waiting on my shelf.
Love this so much, and thank you for shouting out my post! <3
Thank you!! 😊

Maron is fantastic and the draw. I really enjoyed his eponymous show from mid 2010s too. Did you watch?
I came to him later when he was on GLOW and then his podcast over lockdown so totally missed that one. I heard him talk about it on his AMA ep though. Is it available anywhere?
Well thank you for this, as I've not watched anything for ages. I may go and watch The Buccaneers this afternoon in the aircon. It's too hot.
Smart! This is also my treat of the day for after I work!! And work out! 🏋️♀️

Beth Semi endorses! haaa
Ha! I couldn’t give it my all.
Excited to finally have some vetted recommendations - thank you! 🤩
Thank you Susan! I’m so glad.

Thanks for this perspective Kate. I’ll need to create an episode by episode montage to fully appreciate. I tend to notice his jaw line more

Thanks Kate! Your comment today made me big time smile. And I agree with all of this!! Double standard!

My theory is jealousy too. Hey I have it too.

I really want to watch Smoke!! I keep reading great things about it.
