She really is! I can’t get this out of my head. And yeah teen angst rules. The bad boy always has money unless it’s “Cruel Intentions” which is slightly different
I wasn’t the target demo for “Gilmore Girls,” but the writing was so good and I had a massive crush on Lauren Graham. Or maybe Lorelai. It’s tough to tell. The first crush I can remember having was Morticia Addams (Carolyn Jones) from the show, not the movies. An unusual choice for a very young boy, but I stand by it.
Thx for sharing Chris. I get the GG love and I’m pretty sure I also had a weird crush or wanted to be Morticia, the character. Same for Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice - definitely wanted to be her
My nomination for most underrated teen drama comes from... down under. Dance Academy is an Australian soap about a dance school in Sydney. My daughter and I binged it and then rewatched, all the while baffled about why the show isn't better known. Full disclosure, I love anything with dance in it, so it was always going to be a must watch for me. But this show also managed to surprise me. Pliés and plot twists. Watch all the seasons, but skip the movie that "wraps" it up.
I don’t know this one. I’ll have to check it out. Did you also watch “Bunheads”? And did we have a discussion already about my beginner ballet class? And that I’m doing a recital in May? Yes ballet fever 🥵
Would love to hear your thoughts on it! Yes, I did watch Bunheads and I love the big dance numbers in it (the one to the Sparks song where they are all dressed as coal miners is my fave.) But for me, it's Dance Academy for the win over Bunheads for how invested I felt in the characters. Though Sutton Foster and Kelly Bishop are a truly a power couple. Big love for them both.
Very fun trend and a great read. I’d say my guilty pleasure is Baywatch with the Hoff. It’s nice to watch something that knows exactly what it is while also being a product of the time it was made in not to mention watching the beach setting helps to add some warmth during the long winter.
Good choice. Thx for sharing. I watched Baywatch too. I can appreciate that it knew what it was. That’s a good way to put it. Also water safety is always a useful, life saving skill, so there’s that.
As a youngster, my crushes were always the dependable, less attractive, but more rugged character. My big indulgence these days is cheesy romcoms that I really don't have time to watch, but just can't turn off.
I watched "Edge of Seventeen" last night (don't bother) and Hailee Steinfeld reminded me of Katherine Langford, so imagine my surprise when Josephine (Katherine's sister) got a mention in this post. Fun fact: I taught both Langford girls music at school for a few years when they were little. I doubt they'd remember me, but I remember them!
Love this! And wow on the Langfords. I knew they were Aussies and that connection is cool. 😎 The other one was in “13 Reasons Why” which I was hooked on for a bit
I’m almost done with the third book! I can’t even! We need to chat.
I get being into Bravo. I feel like it’s a more socially acceptable cool thing to admit to reality Tv watching - as opposed to young adult spicy stuff but… this is my narrative. Not necessarily what’s truthful. And generally I know people who are watching bravo and talk about it so they normalize it more
Bahaha! I love this trend! We have a few similar ones. Definitely the After series! My Fault London was my latest. And I have my eye on The Tribe on Prime.
I've actually seen a few of the ones you mentioned: "Through My Window", "The Tearsmith", and "Mea Culpa" (the Kelly Rowland version LOL--and not on purpose). And I also love that your cartoon crush is Nick Wilde from "Zootopia" BWAHA (I heard they're coming out with another one--hope the fox and the bunny are back!).
To answer your question: what’s one of your HEAR ME OUT shows or cartoon crushes? - If we're talking cartoons, it would definitely be Flynn Ryder (Rider?) from "Tangled". It was The Smolder that did it for me. LOL
But yeah, I can't give you just one show. I watch/watched SO MANY, so I'll just say that Alan Ritchson, who plays the title role in "Reacher" is my current crush. That man is fine as fuck and can save my black ass any day of the damned week. Kit Harrington as Jon Snow on "Game of Thrones, Tom Ellis in the title role of "Lucifer." Back in the day, it was David Boreanaz when he was on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", then "Angel", then "Bones." Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester on "Supernatural." Going further back, Pierce Brosnan as "Remington Steele." I could go on...
Your daughter is a gold mine of info. Thank you and her for informing us older folks.
Nothing like teen angst movies. Love how the bad boy always comes from a wealthy family.
Thanks!

I think that anyone who didn't have a crush on either of those characters wanted to *be* them.
(I gather Lauren's available, so what are you waiting for...?)
I’m not. Lauren and I could never get our timing right.
Her loss.
I mean… it is though? She had Peter Krause for years and that would have been near the time Chris is speaking of
They broke up early 2020s. I think everyone wants her to find a great guy to settle down with. Chris is always the answer, as you said.
I did say that …

haha love this, Beth! I need to confess that I've watched and enjoyed all of these! I love a guilty pleasure watch
Thx Sara! Appreciate you sharing that you watched this stuff too!

And romcoms are an indulgence for me too. Also dark twisted YA romance apparently as this post attests to

I'm reading the newest Fourth Wing book at the moment and it's sooooo good!
My ultimate guilty pleasure on TV has to be Bravo reality shows. Totally different genre but it's great to decompress
I’m almost done with the third book! I can’t even! We need to chat.

Honestly I have so many reality tv fans around me that you might be right 😂. It's too mainstream to be judged now.
Jessica Rabbit was a 🦊
Ha! Knew it. I was waiting for that comment. Love it!
Happy to oblige 👍🏼
Bahaha! I love this trend! We have a few similar ones. Definitely the After series! My Fault London was my latest. And I have my eye on The Tribe on Prime.
Thank you for making me feel less alone. 😂 the After series after the first one less interesting imho but books were ok. Yeah I read those!
