Love this! An Affair to Remember and the remake Sleepless in Seattle are among my true favourite romance films. Another, kind of obscure romantic film is Falling In Love (1984) starring Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro which is a remake of a 1945 film called Brief Encounter, starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard, which I truly love. Check them out if you can find them. I know you'll like them as much as I do!
So many wonderful recommendations here! My library holds list is getting long, haha. Thank you for reposting this. I'm looking forward to checking out all the other links.
Happy Valentine's Day, Beth! I do remember you writing about "Love at First Sight" before and wanting to see it, more because I think Haley Lu Richardson is an excellent actor. Strange that I don't recall "Love Affair" at all. With Beatty and Bening, I would think it would have jogged a memory at least. Then again, memories are flittering away like so many flocks of birds lately. I'm surprised I remembered your name, even with it being part of the title of your Substack!:)

Thanks for sharing and for the reco! Looks like I know what I’ll be doing next Saturday night for my classics night - Brief Encounter! So fun.

Oh I hear you on the memories. Thanks for sharing. A friend mentioned “Normal People” and I thought I had reviewed it! I couldn’t believe I hadn’t.
Wonderful reviews of loved themed films and stringing them together. I’m a sucker for them.
I remember those odd ads on Craigslist.
Serendipity with John Cusack comes to mind as well
