I'm bummed that Emily... is in two parts. Season 4 is just half a season. Yes, the fashion does not disappoint. Is it true the rest of the season will be in Italy?
I LOVED the the Megan Fellows version of "Anne". The tears for Matthew were long and hard. Same for Alice in "Still Alice", and far too many other situations to mention! 😢 I recently picked up "Anne with an E" and enjoyed the pilot, but I'd had enough by the middle of the first season. I did enjoy the back story setups, the extension of storylines, and Geraldine James and RH Thompson as Marilla and Matthew.
Matthew and Marilla casting are critical. Equally as important as Anne. Sounds like some of the storylines in the new one stray quite a bit from the original story to suit modern sensibilities but I also have to remind myself as a staunch purist when it comes to this story in particular it’s not claiming to be “Anne of Green Gables” and more taking the “inspired by” approach.
I agree. Every adaptation comes from a different point of view and some of those enhance the story, others detract from it. What troubles me about so many modern adaptations of times gone by is the injection of theories, vocabulary, and behaviours that don't match reality. However, I do remember that it's all meant to simply be entertainment.
"Eurovision or me" -> Everyone knows you cannot compete with Eurovision 😂!
Your first question about the last piece of content featuring a healthy relationship made me think hard and I have to give it to Wynonna Earp. I watched the new movie special on Tubi and Waverly+Nicole still have a pretty good relationship. One of the rare long term, healthy lesbian relationships on TV too.
It was a ridiculous ultimatum. I think even Americans get that!
I can’t wait to see Wynonna Earp. It intrigued me when I saw the trailer a long time ago. And showing long term lesbian relationships on a show is a rare thing. Long term relationships in general…
Yes the show has a dedicated fan base thanks to that relationship alone! The show runner was very dedicated to keep the queer representation at the peak of the burry your gays trope so the show has a special place ❤️
I really like Bad Monkey. It's fun and entertaining. Part silly and part good mystery. (Spoiler alert) Emily in Paris is now Emily in Rome. I am getting tired of the contretemps. Maybe I'm too old. Do love the clothes except what Emily wore on the rooftop party in Rome. What the heck was that green coat and dress. Slow Horses is terrific as always. Watch Van der Valk on PBS. It's really good if you like mysteries and the characters are well written. Starting MoonFlower Murders tonight (PBS passport lets you stream the entire season in 1 good binge). Murders in the Building actually gets better with each season. I liked Anne with an E.
Thanks so much! I need to give “Van der Valk” a try. I just finished the entire season of “Moonflower murders” (I binged on Passport!) Emily’s clothes are a little much at times, as in are they purposefully trying to make her look bad? I don’t mind “Bad Monkey” though wish I enjoyed a bit more. We are starting “Agatha all along”because Katherine Hahn is in it and I liked her so much in “Wandavision” but generally I don’t do Avengers
I've not seen any Emily in Paris so I can't comment that series. I know the critical response hasn't been great but, as you say, fans seem to stay hooked. I am looking forward to the new season of Shrinking. The first showed some promise. Good characters. Harrison Ford should have been nominated! I don't mind "The Girl is Mine." It's two great artists on a great album! (Maybe not the best song on it, but solid pop nonetheless.) I'm interested in your movie club! I look forward to seeing what you pick!
Thanks Dan. You’re right. “Shrinking” should have been nominated. I guess that would fall into the comedy dept and lose to “The Bear” inevitably but still! It’s really a great show.
Question. Did you prefer the other duet by Jackson-McCartney “Say say say”?
You’re spot on (as usual) about Emily in Paris. Did you hear it’s been renewed for a season 5? I always thought it was going to be a four season show, so was pleasantly surprised!
I don't watch the Emily show, but I did watch the newish Anne-with-an-E version. I don't remember how many seasons there were, but I remember thinking that I wanted to watch it if it was being renewed.
I also watched the Alex Rider series, too! Never read the books, but I saw the movie (with Ewan McGregor) in the movie theater, no less, and then when it was made into a series, I was ALL over that. I liked how he was a spy and still got into dangerous situations. Like Spy Kids on steroids. LOL
And that Moonflower Murders sounds like an interesting concept. I'm not into shows like that, but I like it when fiction becomes non-fiction.
Catching up on my reading.

The back half of season 4 is in Italy. I know they got greenlit for another season so here’s hoping it stays in Italy!

It’s frustrating though! Especially with this one, for me. It’s like “stick to the story!”

I have Agatha all along book markers too.
This line made me laugh: Subtlety is lost on this show.
I love that Emily is in Rome with Marcello and hope she stays with him even if Gabriel follows her to Italy.
Me too! I’m concerned with the fifth season they are going to make Gabriel #endgame and he’s not!!
Totally agree!

Yeah, Say Say Say was ok. The video is ridiculous though as it has nothing to do with the song!

Best news! I think I knew this but perhaps forgot. I think the way it wrapped up this season I would have been ok with it ending there too.
Also thank you for the books you’re fanning over mention!!
I mean I’m fanning over this review and the book
