I admit I had to look up Carol Kane because I never remember names. I looooooved her in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Such an iconic character and she's one of those actresses that's just really memorable.
I really appreciate the nuances of your reviews. Your knowledge of film/TV and culture is amazing. My favourite Carol Kane role was in "The Princess Bride", alongside Billy Chrystal.
Excellent review! Glad to see Carol Kane is still delivering great performances. Her career has spanned so many genres from being in When a Stranger Calls (1979) to her pairing with Andy Kaufman in the sitcom Taxi. Really enjoyed reading about the cultural significance of the film too.
Thanks! Carol Kane is really a delight. It wasn’t a stretch to see why he fell for her hook line and sinker. Maybe it’s a factor of my middle age but man, I looked at her and was like, “She’s so alluring.” There’s just something about lived experience giving way to earned confidence
Indeed! It's very moving. Good to see Schwartzman in some non-Wes Anderson fare. I really do like him. He's great in those films, but ya know, nice to witness his breadth here.
It was better than I expected, though the Schwartzman character strikes me as a bit selfish and a bit dim when it comes to timing and decision making. Loved the soundtrack. I agree that it's much better than that Netflix crap, Nobody Wants This....
This sounds wonderful and very un-Hollywood which I appreciate. The grainy filmmaking wasn’t distracting? Thx for this terrific review.
Graininess takes a minute or two to get used to. But it’s good!

Thank you for the high praise!! Omg yes! The Princess Bride - her character was so fun (the couple too!). I barely recognized her.
I love watching films shot on actual film! This definitely sounds like one I will be adding to my list of films to watch!

one of my top favorites of the year! I'm glad to see others talking about it.
Huzzah! Here's to Netflix for showing it :)
yesssss! I can’t wait to rewatch it!
What a lovely review -- I'm so glad you liked it!
