I only just heard about the Emmys a couple of days ago as well. I hadnβt looked yet to see who and what all was nominated, so glad to see your list!
Iβm thrilled to see Reservation Dogs and some of the actors made it, and will be rooting for them even though Iβm also a huge fan of the Bear. I questioned why the Bear was under the comedy category too - apparently they can enter in different categories according to where they think they have the best chance of winning or something like that. To me, itβs a pretty solid drama with very little comedy - but, I suppose that small amount of comedy allows for some genre stretching.
It took me a couple of episodes initially to get into it, but once I did, it quickly became one of my top favorites! I spent a lot of time on reservations and teaching at two different tribal colleges, and everything is so spot on genuine.
You've never heard of 3 body problem? It got a lot of hype in my circles because the book is really good. I don't think it has any chance to win an Emmy but it's a good scifi show if you ever feel like watching someone new in the genre. The book is also by a Chinese author with a lot of historical and culture context from China which I found super interesting.
For the Emmys I bet on Shogun and The Bear being the big winners although I will never understand why the allow The Bear in the comedy category. I wish Hacks, Abott Elementary and Only Murders in the Building win something :)
I hadnβt heard about this show! Is it possible it did better in Europe?
Iβm over yearly awards domination from
One show. I want the underdogs (give me the βslow horsesβ) and the quirky mockumentary like βAbbott Elementaryβ or from prior years βJury Dutyβ Recognize the creative and original show with heart that leads with authenticity and levity.
It's definitely possible. Or maybe just my friend group π΅οΈ. I just knew about it because I read the book last year and really enjoyed it so I was looking forward to the series.
My son is into sci-fi and told me I should watch 3 Body Problem - otherwise I wouldnβt have heard of it! It was pretty good. I agree, probably wonβt win, but good nevertheless.
Now that Iβm hearing about it, I think my husband started this one. China and sci-fi sounds vaguely familiar. Agreed that its likelihood to win is pretty low
Yea I feel it's probably well known in scifi circles but it didn't reach outside that much. I'm really curious to see where the story goes in the next seasons. I feel the book is award worthy but the tv adaptation was more muted
Yes I highly recommend the books (it's a trilogy I think). It has a lot of Chinese cultural references that make it super unique in the scifi genre and very interesting.
I've had the date for tonight's Emmys on my calendar for two months... What can I say? I'm an awards show geek! I've been watching the Emmys since the 1970s when All in the Family, MASH, and Mary Tyler Moore were the big winners. What am I excited about tonight? Not much. I think The Bear and Shogun will win a bunch of awards. I really like the former but have seen very little of the ladder. I like surprises. Though they probably won't, I'd love to see Slow Horses and Ripley win some awards. Baby Reindeer will likely also win a few. It's a very disturbing but wonderfully written and acted limited series. I wish I was more excited about the drama series nominees but since the departure of Succession and Better Call Saul I don't care much about who will will in those catgories. Still, I love the Emmys because I love TV and look forward to watching the show!
Dan - these events (Oscars too) were such a cornerstone of my youth. My mom loved these shows and it rubbed off on me. Iβd love to see βBaby Reindeerβ pick up awards. βRipleyβ wasnβt such a fan of it but I wonβt cry if it does. βSuccessionβ and βThe Crownβ too were always such front runners in the drama category every year they were nominated. This last season of βThe Crownβ wasnβt its finest (1st one was) but it was a proper send off to a complicated dysfunctional family drama. I could do without the washing over of events when it comes to Charles but thatβs my bias! Enjoy your date for tonight and stop by for some virtual πΉ on our chat!
Right? Iβm looking forward to your press tour post - hey maybe the Emmyβs will give you more fodder. Look forward to seeing you on the chat π¬ later! (Maybe?)
Yes!! I keep thinking how between the Midwest eating dogs and childless cat moms making election news it writes itself π - Iβm just excited for the
I hope there won't be protesters outside the auditorium due to two Levites hosting.
Should be a great show. Eugene and Dan are the only reason I will watch.
Hereβs hoping π€ no events

I was happy to see βReservation Dogsβ nominated too. I didnβt get into it but can recognize quality and different/original when I see it!

I didnβt know it was based on a book! Going to have to read it. I too am curious to see where it goes!

Interesting!! I actually took a βGender in Chinese Litβ course in my undergrad days.
That's so cool. I'm so jealous of those hyper specific classes. We didn't have that much choice at my uni in France.

Thanks! I will!
I just learned the Emmyβs were tonight a day ago β¦ I think this happened last year too. Wild

For sure! And Iβve created a list of links for the press tour newsletter! I just need to put pen to paper β¦ or finger to keyboard
