Anne with an E: Season 2, Episode 1 (S2E1)
Spring renewal is the headline. Gold fever comes to Avonlea. Anne discovers mascara and there's a sexual awakening happening at Green Gables with the advent of two geologist grifters/boarders.

It’s a new season, and Anne with an E has graduated from direct title inspiration, sprung from Charlotte Brontë’s “Jane Eyre,” to another Victorian, 19th-century female writer, George Eliot. Known for her in-depth explorations of societal constraints and profound moral questions, Eliot signals a shift. We can expect a little more maturity and a bit more darkness as Anne grows into herself and sees the world with clearer, braver eyes.
“If youth is the season of hope, it is often so only in the sense that our elders are hopeful about us; for no age is so apt as youth to think its emotions, partings, and resolves are the last of their kind. Each crisis seems final, simply because it is new.”

The context of this quote in “Middlemarch” suggests that for children, every new obstacle and the learning that comes with it carries a sense of urgency and raw emotion, born from its novelty and the absence of any established blueprint of experience to draw from. The quote “Youth is the season of hope” feels like a public relations fait accompli by adults, meant to shield youth and paint a more optimistic picture of the painful experiences that come with youthful folly and ignorance.
As such, this opening episode ushers in a period of rebirth and renewal, marking a transition to financial and psychological stability for the Cuthberts after the uncertainty that came with their mortgage crisis and potential foreclosure of Green Gables in the prior season [S1E7 Finale]. However, it also comes with a foreboding, especially as we know the new Green Gables boarders, a byproduct of securing a revenue stream to help pay the mortgage, are indeed bad people capable of violence (they beat up Jerry last season), stealing, and swindling. They are there to prey upon Matthew, Marilla, and, as it turns out, all of the townspeople.

I think so. For me, it means getting out of the house more, taking walks, engaging with nature, and with that comes a lot of thoughts and ideas that spark new enterprises, because there’s more willingness and openness for whatever’s next.
